Surah Al-Baqarah 2:152
فَاذْكُرُونِي أَذْكُرْكُمْ وَاشْكُرُوا لِي وَلَا تَكْفُرُونِ

Faḏkurūnī aḏkurkum waškurū lī wa lā takfurūn

So remember Me; I will remember you. And be grateful to Me and do not deny Me.

The Power of Morning & Evening Remembrances

In the fast-paced modern world, anxiety and stress often overwhelm our thoughts. The Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ provides an antidote: a continuous shield of authentic supplications (duas) and remembrances (adhkar).

Supplication is defined by the Prophet ﷺ as the core of worship (ad-dua'u huwal-'ibadah). Through these short, daily phrases, a believer connects their heart directly to the Divine throughout the day.

1. Dua Upon Waking Up

Arabic:

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ

Transliteration: Alhamdu lillahi-lladhi ahyana ba'da ma amatana wa ilaihin-nushur.

Translation: "All praise belongs to Allah who gave us life after causing us to die, and unto Him is the resurrection."

Reference: Sahih al-Bukhari 6312

2. Dua for Seeking Guidance, Piety, and Self-Sufficiency

Arabic:

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْهُدَى وَالتُّقَى وَالْعَفَافَ وَالْغِنَى

Transliteration: Allahumma inni as'alukal-huda wat-tuqa wal-'afafa wal-ghina.

Translation: "O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and self-sufficiency."

Reference: Sahih Muslim 2721

3. Dua for Ultimate Protection from Harm

Arabic:

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الَّذِي لَا يَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِهِ شَيْءٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِي السَّمَاءِ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ

Transliteration: Bismillahil-ladhi la yadurru ma'as-mihi shay'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i wa huwas-Sami'ul-'Alim.

Translation: "In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing on earth or in the heavens can cause harm, and He is the All-Hearing, All-Knowing."

Recitation: 3 times every morning and evening.

Reference: Sunan Abu Dawud 5088

4. Dua when Leaving the Home

Arabic:

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ ، وَلا حَوْلَ وَلا قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّهِ

Transliteration: Bismillahi tawakkaltu 'alallah, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah.

Translation: "In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah. There is no power nor strength except through Allah."

Benefit: Angelic guards accompany the believer and say: "You have been guided, defended, and protected."

5. Dua for Anxiety, Stress, and Debt

Arabic:

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْهَمِّ وَالْحَزَنِ ، وَالْعَجْزِ وَالْكَسَلِ ، وَالْبُخْلِ وَالْجُبْنِ ، وَضَلَعِ الدَّيْنِ وَغَلَبَةِ الرِّجَالِ

Transliteration: Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wal-bukhli wal-jubni, wa dala'id-dayni wa ghalabatir-rijal.

Translation: "O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and grief, from incapacity and laziness, from cowardice and miserliness, and from the burden of debt and the oppression of men."

Reference: Sahih al-Bukhari 2893

6. Dua for Forgiveness (Sayyid al-Istighfar)

Arabic:

اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ رَبِّي لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ خَلَقْتَنِي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ وَأَنَا عَلَى عَهْدِكَ وَوَعْدِكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ...

Translation: "O Allah, You are my Lord; there is no god but You. You created me, and I am Your servant..."

Reward: Whoever recites it in the evening with conviction and dies during the night enters Paradise.

How to Build a Consistent Daily Adhkar Routine

  1. Keep a Small Adhkar Book or App Handy: Place it on your nightstand or phone home screen.
  2. Anchor Duas to Existing Habits: Recite leaving-home dua right as you turn the door handle.
  3. Focus on Meaning: Contemplate the English translation as you speak the Arabic text.
